Quilty Making

I was born in 1956 in Maçka, Trabzon.

In our tradition, when a child turns seven, they are given a needle to start learning the craft.

In 1970, I moved to Istanbul and began my professional artistic journey under the guidance of my master, Abdurrahman Turan, in Acıbadem. Over the years, I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside renowned masters such as Kemal Mataracı, İzzet Aktürk, İbrahim Çiçek, Celalettin Akyüz, Tahsin Turan, and Süleyman Kılıç.

I have dedicated fifty years to this craft and hold titles as a master craftsman, a state artist, a teacher of the arts, and the president of the Quilt Makers' Guild. I am also recognized as a bearer of intangible cultural heritage.

Quilt making, an art passed down from our ancestors and considered one of the most beneficial to human health, is a craft that is on the verge of disappearing. I have made it my mission to raise awareness of this valuable art among a wider audience.
