KEIKO

Silk Braidining
I am a traditional Japanese Kumihimo braiding artist, Keiko.
All my creations are meticulously handmade by me.
I was born in Fukushima, where my familyʼs home is a 400-year-old Buddhist
temple. Growing up, I wore kimonos regularly, which sparked my deep interest in
Japanese kimono culture.
For centuries, Kumihimo cords have been integral to Japanese culture, with their
history dating back to the Jomon period (5,500-6,000 years ago).
Braided with exquisite precision by hand, these cords are more than mere bindings;
they embody the essence of Japanese artistry and tradition. Their unique structure
allows them to flex and stretch in ways that other cords cannot, adapting to the
needs of the wearer or the object they support.
Samurai warriors valued them for their strength and durability, using them to secure
their scabbards and armor. During the Meiji period, they found new life as obijime—
elegant accessories used to tie women's kimono sashes.
Their intricate patterns and delicate craftsmanship continue to reflect the rich
tapestry of Japanese culture and heritage.
Now I created for my precious Leica camera.
I hope enjoy my Kumihimo art camera strap from Japan!
